Banda Aceh – Bonggol jagung dan kulit durian merupakan limbah organik yang selama ini dibiarkan berserakan di pinggir jalan atau tidak dimanfaatkan sama sekali. Pedagang pinggir jalan seperti yang terdapat di jalan menuju pantai Ulee Lheue banyak menghasilkan sampah bonggol jagung dan kulit durian. Limbah ini sebenarnya mempunya nilai ekonomis kalau diubah menjadi bahan bakar. Selain bernilai ekonomis maka kegiatan membuat energi terbarukan tersebut ikut mengurangi limbah organik yang banyak menghasilkan gas rumah kaca penyebab perubahan iklim.

Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (LPPM) Universitas Serambi Mekkah (USM) mengadakan kegiatan pemberdayaan masyarakat dalam memanfaatkan bonggol jagung dan limbah kulit durian menjadi briket di kawasan wisata Ulee Lheue. Kawasan pantai Ule Lhee merupakan salah satu kawasan wisata halal yang mempunyai beragam tempat dan kuliner untuk wisatawan.. Kegiatan yang paling populer di pantai Ule Lhee ini adalah duduk santai ditepian pantai dengan menikmati jagung bakar. Hal ini mengakibatkan tingginya volume bonggol jagung yang merupakan bahan baku yang dapat diolah sebagai biomassa energe terbarukan yaitu briket.

Acara ini dilakukan Senin (1/07/2019) bertempat di gedung serbaguna gampong Ulee Lheue. Tujuan pelaksanan pemberdayaan ini adalah melatih masyarakat membuat limbah bonggol jagung dan kulit durian menjadi briket yang memiliki nilai ekonomis. Acara dibuka oleh Akademisi USM Irhamni, ST., MT yang juga Ketua Tim Peneliti USM Prodi Teknik Lingkungan. Masyarakat cukup antusias mengikuti kegiatan pembuatan energi terbarukan ini karena dapat memberikan manfaat ekonomi dan mengurangi sampah.

Peserta terdiri dari ibu-ibu produktif yang memiliki usaha jagung bakar. Keuchiek Gampong Ulee Lheue Kecamatan Meuraxa Kota Banda Aceh, Dedi Armasyah, SE menyatakan pemberdayaan ini dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan msayrakat dalam mengurangi volume sampah khususnya bonggol jagung. Seusai pelatihan, dilakukan penyerahan plakat dari USM kepada Ketua PKK Gampong Ulee Lheue Kecamatan Meuraxa, Kota Banda Aceh, Sufatmiaty.

Kegiatan ini sendiri didukung oleh Kementerian Ristekdikti yang telah mendanai penelitian pemberdayaan masyarakat (PKM) di bawah LPPM Universitas Serambi Mekkah. [rel]
